Gabby Agbonlahor believes Alexandre Lacazette should apologise to Arsenal after the striker revealed that he is talking to other clubs.

Lacazette, 30, will be out of contract at the Emirates come the summer and has been heavily linked with a return to Lyon.

In an interview with Canal Plus earlier this week, the Frenchman spoke of his desire to play in the Champions League and let slip that he was sounding out a new club despite manager Mikel Arteta asking him to focus on the Gunners’ top four push.

And while his build-up play and work-rate has been praised by fans, he has mustered up just four top-flight goals this term – with two of those strikes coming from the penalty spot.

Agbonlahor, the former Aston Villa forward, thinks Lacazette’s leak was ill-timed and criticised the Arsenal man’s current form.

Speaking to Football Insider about Lacazette’s interview, he told Football Insider: “It’s cheeky.

“If he wants to play Champions League football the only team he’ll be playing it at is Partizan Belgrade or Panathinaikos.

“He won’t be playing it at a big club because he can’t hit a barn door.

“The audacity to say that he wants to play Champions League football when he’s putting in performances that are lacklustre is an insult to Arsenal, to be honest.

“I think he should apologise.

“Maybe he would be playing Champions League football for Arsenal if he could score a goal.”

Lacazette hasn’t started the last two matches after testing positive for Covid-19.

And with Eddie Nketiah scoring twice in the 4-2 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, Lacazette may find himself on the bench again.
