Tottenham have a stressful January transfer missing out on Luiz Dias to Liverpool and Adama Traore, but ended it with a deadline day gem in both Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Speaking in January, Antonio Conte expressed his disappointment over Spurs lack of activities in the transfer market, which prompted claims they he would leave Tottenham before the end of the season.
Tottenham’s two most expensive players Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso left on loan, while Dele Alli joined Everton and Bryan Gil departed for Valencia.
The North Londoners thought they would seal Diaz £37.5million switch from Porto – but he moved to Anfield instead which allowed Tottenham to complete Kulusevski transfer on a six-month loan deal from Juventus with the option to make the move permanent in the summer. And the Swede has had a fine start to life in the Premier League forming a deadly trio with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
According to former Reds left-back Stephen Warnock, Tottenham will be happy they missed out on Luis Diaz to Liverpool as it helped turn attention to signing Dejan Kulusevski.
“The other point I just wanted to make very quickly was Tottenham fans might be thinking as well they were happy Diaz went to Liverpool because if he hadn’t had gone there, and he’d have gone to Spurs, how would that have fitted in? Would it have worked?
“Listen, we know Diaz is brilliant but they’ll be looking at that thinking ‘we’re happy enough with Kulusevski as well’.” Kulusevski has linked up exceptionally well with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son at Spurs.
In just 11 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, Kulusevski has already racked up a ridiculous three goals and six assists to help Tottenham move three points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
