Bergwijn picked up the ball from range before curling the ball past Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, leaving him with no chance.

Should Tottenham keep the Dutchman?

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Ajax have recently submitted a bid to sign Steven Bergwijn, with the winger seemingly not figuring in Antonio Conte’s long-term plans at Tottenham.

The winger signed for Spurs in a £26.7m deal in January 2020, moving from PSV Eindhoven on a deal to 2025. However, despite a goalscoring debut in a home win over Manchester City, Bergwijn has failed to command a regular shirt at Spurs.

Indeed, in 83 appearances for Tottenham, the Netherlands forward has just eight goals to his name.

Bergwijn was the subject of strong interest from Ajax during the January window, though an offer was never tabled.

With the reports coming out today, it seems they are ready to try again for Bergwijn. To that end, De Telegraaf reports that an opening offer from Ajax for the winger has been tabled.

However, Spurs have once again and very rapidly knocked the offer back, forcing Ajax back to the drawing board. The Eredivisie champions are now considering their next move as they look to reach a compromise with Tottenham.

Spurs are keen to recoup the majority of the €30m they paid PSV Eindhoven for Bergwijn in January 2020, who has been reduced to a peripheral role under Antonio Conte.
