Manchester United Vs Newcastle Preview : Team News, Predicted Lineups, Key Players and more

Manchester United welcome Newcastle United on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo the man to watch as he makes his first appearance in a Red Devils shirt since rejoining the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have made a good start to the campaign, collecting seven points from their opening three, sitting third in the Premier League, two points off top spot and the manager will hope the addition of the world-class Portuguese star can give them the edge in the title race.

Newcastle’s fortunes are different to the Red Devils. Newcastle have endured a fairly miserable start to the campaign and manager Steve Bruce will be desperate for a result after a return of one point from three games

Ronaldo, 36, rejoined United from Juventus on a two-year deal last month and the Portugal forward will be looking to add to his 118 goals at the Old Trafford club where he won eight major trophies in six seasons

Ronaldo’s return will overshadow the day regardless of the result, but if there’s any player who could live up to the occasion it would be the 36-year-old.

Having scored twice for Portugal in their win over Ireland last week to become the highest goalscorer in the history of international football, we expect him to take control at Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 48 hat-tricks in all competitions in his club career – the first of these came against Newcastle United, in a Premier League match in January 2008.

Newcastle – Saint-Maximin

With Callum Wilson expected to miss the clash through injury, the onus will be on Saint-Maximin to deliver.

The electrifying winger and the brotherhood of Adama Traore in terms of playing is already aiming to spoil the Red devil’s party on Saturday.

The 24-year-old did score in this fixture last season, but Newcastle lost that game 3-1 in the end.

He will be hoping for a different outcome this time around, but it will likely not be easy.

Opta stats

  • Manchester United have lost just one of their last 36 home league games against Newcastle (W26 D9), with that defeat coming in December 2013 under David Moyes (0-1
  • Newcastle have opened the scoring in six of their last eight Premier League meetings with Manchester United but have gone on to win just two of those (L4).
  • After losing three of their first six league games last season (W2 D1), Manchester United have lost just a further three in their subsequent 35 Premier League matches (W21 D11).
  • Manchester United have scored at least once in each of their last 14 Premier League home games, netting 40 times in total (2.9 per game). However, they’ve only kept three clean sheets in that run (19 conceded), shipping at least once in each of their last six at Old Trafford.

Manchester United Vs Newcastle – Prediction

Man United could not ask for more welcoming opponents than a Newcastle team that has shipped in eight goals from their opening three matches and Ronaldo will be ready to take any opportunities presented to him.

Although the Red Devils have struggled in their last two games for goals they did get five in their previous game here and can be backed to get among the goals again

Despite  the poor start of the season, goals haven’t necessarily been an issue for Newcastle as they’ve scored four themselves in their three games and will be looking to get on the scoresheet  when they visit Old Trafford.

Score Prediction

Man Utd 4: 1 Newcastle

Possible Goalscorers : Bruno Fernandes, Greenwood, Ronaldo X2 ; Willock
