Gianfranco Zola has shared that Antonio Conte told him that Tottenham ‘need more depth’ in the middle of the park, as he told Premier League Productions.
The Chelsea legend claimed that Tottenham need a Christian Eriksen-like player to add more goals and quality to their midfield.

On Sunday, Spurs were eased away by Chelsea in the Premier League, as they suffered a fourth straight defeat to their London rivals this season.
Even though Conte changed systems in order to get the better of his former club, it still didn’t work out and they walked away empty-handed.
Zola was at Stamford Bridge to watch both teams in action and he was seen hugging and talking to Conte after the game.
The former Italy international shared what his fellow countryman told him about Tottenham when in conversation with him.
“We were just talking about that,” said Zola.
“He realises that to be top four in this country, you need quality.
There was different quality in the last 20 meters (compared with Chelsea) and this is what makes the difference from being mid-table to top table. But he knows that. He will make the team better“
I think in midfield, they need to have more depth. Right now, he told me that he doesn’t have many players. And not many options. I think they also need a different type of player in midfield, in my opinion.
“They probably need a midfielder that can provide goals, like Eriksen used to do for them before. This is the type of player, in my opinion, they need very much.”
“He’s up to the challenge. Winning is in his blood. He’s in great shape and I really hope they can continue.”
“If you have that kind of passion, it is like adding salt to the meal — and that makes it a little bit tastier.
“I know Antonio’s value. Over the years, I’ve seen how well he works. The only question I had was if his methods were going to stick with the players quickly because Antonio is quite intense.”
Ever since Eriksen left, the Tottenham Midfielders output have diminished and offers nothing much in the final third, Conte has made it clear that he would like quality added to his midfield having not been satisfied with the likes of Lo celso, Ndombele but there hasn’t been any movement of any signing coming into the midfield.
The only addition linked to Tottenham Hotspurs is Franck Kessie. However, nothing has been yet agreed between AC Milan and Tottenham for the man that has just six-months left at San Siro.
Tottenham transfer news : Tottenham consider January bid for Franck Kessie
Kessie scored 13 league goals last season. And he has already another five this time around.
Kessie is a player who can tick a variety of boxes. He is probably best known as a holding midfielder.
The only concern is whether Tottenham can agree the deal with Kessie’s in the winter transfer window or else go for Georginio Wijnaldum who would be surplus to requirements after PSG Ndombele’s signing.
The January transfer window remains just 6 days for Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici to bring in new players in order to improve Conte’s squad and get those out the door who are deemed surplus to requirements.
it remains to be seen whether they can get a deal over the line with less than a week remaining in the window.
