Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal next season according to reports.

Vidal’s contract at San Siro is due to expire at the end of June, though, and it is believed that the experienced midfielder is keen to seek pastures new at this stage of his career.

According to Chilean outlet, La Tercera, Tottenham Hotspur are showing a real interest in signing Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal with Antonio Conte now believed to be keen on a reunion.

Juventus FC head coach Antonio Conte celebrates with Arturo Vidal.

Vidal and Conte won three successive Serie A titles during their time together at Juventus, and also part of the Conte’s team that helped the Nerazzurri win their first Serie A after 11 years of wait.

However, it appears the Londoners are set to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the race to sign the Inter Milan midfielder. The player is also courted by Marseille and Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Conte and Arturo Vidal

The midfielder played under the Italian for both Juventus and Inter, and only missed playing under him at Chelsea.

However, he was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea during Conte’s tenure at Stamford Bridge which later didn’t materialized because of Bayern Munich’s unwillingness to release the super star.

“I must be honest, it’s not right to talk about a player from another team – especially if you try to link this player with us,” Conte said

But [Arturo] is a fantastic player. I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together. If we go to war, I’d want him with me.”.

After a failed transfer to bring him to Stamford Bridge, Conte make sure he reunited with Vidal at Inter Milan

Vidal joined Inter Milan on a free transfer from Barcelona back in 2020 under Conte and quickly contributed to the title winning squad.

But, it seems the veteran has fallen down the pecking order under new manager Inzaghi, having only made one start in Serie A so far.

While Vidal has featured 24 times this season, the minutes amount to just 833 in total across all competitions. He has also scored twice while assisting three times during that process.

‌Vidal keen on Premiership switch

After Conte was officially unveiled as the new Spurs manager, succeeding the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.

Vidal was asked on Instagram by his followers if he would move to the Premier League with the Spurs manager and he didn’t rule it out.

“I have had opportunities in the past to move to the Premier League, but in the end nothing happened,” Vidal said.

“But there’s still time! We’ll how this year goes, what will happen and what my future destiny will be.

But this year I want to give everything and fight for Inter.”

Good option for Tottenham?

The 34-year-old is a proven winner, having won major trophies at his previous clubs – Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

He’s an influential player when attacking, and a fierce competitor in midfield when his team is out of possession.

With Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg undoubtedly the mainstays in the team, the 34-year-old can be influencial coming on a short term option.

Conte knows how to get the best out of him, and while his best years may be slightly behind him, he’d be a real asset if Tottenham could secure his signature.
