Robert Lewandowski’s current deal with Bayern Munich runs until the end of the 2022/23 season, but the two parties have yet to reach a deal on his potential renewal.

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has stressed that the club will do everything it takes to extend the Poland international’s contract, but Lewandowski is unsure whether this is the club’s real intention.

“I’m hearing that for the first time,” said Lewandowski in response to a question about Salihamidzic’s remarks.

Lewandowski, 33, yet has another outstanding season in which he has scored 39 goals in 33 matches across all competitions. But with no new contract offer yet, Lewandowski told Sky Sport Deutschland: ‘I am open to everything. I’m quiet.

‘It is important for me to be able to focus on my game, always on what can happen in the last match.

‘Everything that remains to be done regarding contracts is a secondary issue and remains in the background.’

Bayern Munich’s contract renewal policy

Bayern Munich’s contract renewal policy dictates that players over the age of 30 are offered one-year deals, but Bild have reported that an exception could be made for Lewandowski, who could be offered a two-year contract extension.

His salary would remain intact if he renews until 2024, but his wages would drop in the event he renews for two years.

The speculation surrounding Lewandowski has been fuelled by the Bavarian club’s interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Die Roten had reportedly touched base with Mino Raiola to keep updated about Haaland’s plans about a summer transfer. However, former club officials have always hinted that signing Haaland is unrealistic for Die Roten.

As of now, Lewandowski priority is concentrating solely on his game rather than negotiating for a new Bayern deal as there is still plenty to play for this season with Bayern on course to win a 10th consecutive Bundesliga title and the Champions League after 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Also, Results at the weekend saw them establish an eight-point lead over Borussia Dortmund in second with 10 rounds of the season still to play.
