The reigning champions restored their six-point advantage in the table after Borussia Dortmund had cut the gap with a 5-1 win over Freiburg on Friday.
Bayern Munich who lost their last match against Borussia Moenchengladbach raced into a 2-0 lead with goals by Lewandowski and Corentin Tolisso in the first half.
Lewandowski reached the 300 mark in the German top flight by netting twice in the second half, with both assists provided by substitute Leroy Sane making him the only the player to reach the milestone after Gerd Müller did so against Hertha Berlin in 1976.
“We are happy and grateful to have Robert – he is a machine upfront,” added Neuer.
Lewandowski keeps getting better.
The Bayern star might have turned 33 last year, but if anything he is only becoming more deadly as the years go by.
In 2020-21 he set a new personal season best, netting an incredible 41 goals in Bundesliga to break the Gerd Muller’s record of 40 goals in a calendar year and this was also the 13th consecutive Bundesliga game in which Lewandowski has found the net, a run only bettered by the late, great Gerd Muller.
Lewandowski has scored 23 goals this season and he’s on course to break his own record of 41 Bundesliga goals in a single season, which he set last May.
Will Lewandowski break Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga Highest Goal scorer record?
Lewandowski is continuing to make inroads on the German legend’s all-time Bundesliga record of 365 goals.
“His record? “The numbers are already insane.
I never thought I would score so many goals in the Bundesliga.
With a bit of hindsight, maybe I can think about it a little longer and just be proud,” the 33-year-old Pole said on Saturday.
Lewy has needed a total of 369 games to reach the 300-goal mark, while Müller did it in just 350 games.
After 19 Bundesliga games this season, Lewandowski now has 23 league goals to his name – this time last season, he had 24 and ended up with a record 41 goals for the season.
How many will he end up with this time? And how many season will it take Lewandowski?
STUMBLING BLOCKS?
Contract.
Lewandowski’s current contract expires in 2023.
However, According to Bild’s Christian Falk, the Bayern Munich striker would like to extend his contract with the club until 2025.
Age
The striker will be 35 once his contract expires in 2023.
However, we’ve seen the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo play at the top level at their ripe old ages, and considering the utmost care that Lewandowski puts into his body and career, imagining he can do the same isn’t too far-fetched.
WILL HE BECOME THE BUNDESLIGA HIGHEST GOAL SCORER AT THE END OF HIS CAREER?
Taking into consideration the above analysis, our answer is YES.
