Richarlison couldn’t hold back the tears after scoring a brace in front of his friends and family on his Champions League debut.

The Tottenham forward who admitted in July that could be reduced to tears when his opportunity to play in the Champions League came, broke down in tears after marking his Champions League debut with a brace against Marseille.

Richarlison tears

Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton in the summer for a fee of up to £60million. He had to wait until Saturday’s visit of Fulham to make his full debut for the club.

He thought he had opened his Tottenham account late in that match but for his goal to be ruled out for offside. Richarlison maintained his spot in Antonio Conte’s starting XI for the first Champions League match of the season.

And Conte was proven right to select him as he went on to score two late headed goals to edge Tottenham past 10-man Marseille as Champions League football returned in north London.

Crouch said on BT Sport: “I’m surprised he hasn’t played Champions League, he’s been good for a long, long time, hasn’t had the opportunity but those goals will be massive to him, he didn’t get a goal at the weekend. Really pleased for him.”

Harry Kane was also full of praise for his team-mate, telling BT: “Richy’s been great since he come in, worked hard for his opportunities, played well whenever he’s had them. He’s a real threat with the ball and scored a couple of headers.”

Richarlison will be hoping to keep his spot in the Tottenham side for the trip to champions Manchester City on Saturday evening. City and Spurs are the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the Premier League this season.
