Newcastle consider Martial loan

Callum Wilson’s injury is a major concern for Newcastle, with the severity expected to be revealed next week.

We don’t have a clear diagnosis at the moment,” Howe said.

“Callum will have another scan very shortly to try to determine exactly how long he will be out – there’s still a little bit of grey over the length of time.

There are fears he could be out for much of the season, which would force Newcastle to make a signing in January and that could well be Anthony Martial.

According to The Times, a loan move could be made for the Frenchman, who has made it clear he wants to leave Man United.

His wages of close to £200,000-a-week will likely put off many clubs, but Newcastle would be able to cover them.

Smith unsure if Norwich can keep Cantwell

Norwich boss Dean Smith cannot guarantee Todd Cantwell’s future at Carrow Road following talk of interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.

The midfielder is reportedly available for a January transfer if an interested club can meet his £15million valuation.

“He is contention to play on Sunday, but I don’t deal with the speculation, Stuart [Webber, Norwich sporting director] does, so I don’t know is the honest answer,” Smith said.

“Hopefully he will be here still and playing well, because that is what we want from him. We know what we can do at this level and are working hard to get him back to that.”

Antonio earns West Ham extension

Michail Antonio has been rewarded for his fine form at West Ham this season with a new contract extension.

The 31-year-old has signed on for another two years with the Hammers, taking his time at the club up to 2025.

Antonio, who has signed a new deal in November 2020 has now taken up the opeiom of an extra year that was included in the agreement.

Antonio is an important figure this season and has scored nine goals in all competitions so far this term.

Paul Pogba as highest paid player in EPL?

Paul Pogba’s contract at Man United runs out at the end of the season, meaning he is able to speak to clubs across Europe this month and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement.

The Sun claim that in a bid to stop that happening, United have offered the Frenchman a huge £500,000-a-week deal to make him the highest paid player in the club as well in EPL with hope that it would persuade Pogba to stay.

The 28-year-old could demand a big signing-on fee elsewhere should he hold out for a free transfer.

City make Haaland top priority

It’s a transfer story that will run and run until Erling Haaland’s future is decided.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is a player every club in the world would love to have, and the Athletic report that Man City have made Haaland their top target as they look to sign a striker.

After missing out on Harry Kane last summer, Man city are ready to fight Europe’s elite to secure his signature.

It’s claimed the club will hold talks with Haaland agent this month on the possibility of being him to Etihad.

Adama Traore /Doherty Swap deal

Tottenham are believed to be planning a new bid for Wolves winger Adama Traore.

The north London club are prioritising a right wing-back in the January window, and they see Traore as a potential option.

According to the Athletic, Matt Doherty could make a return to Wolves as part of the deal.

Traore has just 18 months left on his current contract and there are no signs of a new deal being agreed, so Wolves may decide to cash in on him while they can.

What next for Bale?

Gareth Bale will consider quitting football when his Real Madrid contract expires in the summer.

The Welsh winger has barely featured for Los Blancos since returning from a loan spell at Tottenham and looks set for new pastures this year.

However, only a 2022 World Cup spot is said to motivate Bale as reported by The Athletic, and a failure to reach the tournament will lead to him thinking of hanging up his boots.

Should Wales qualify; money and glory will not be too high up his priority list in choosing new team with staying fit for Wales duty is his main consideration when picking a new team.

Aston Villa have COMPLETED the deal to sign Philippe Coutinho.

Former Anfield hero Philippe Coutinho’s future is now sorted with a loan move to Aston Villa agreed, which includes an option of a £33m permanent move from Barcelona.

Steven Gerrard has convinced the Barcelona man to move to the Midlands on a loan deal to the end of the season.

Villa are said to be confident that Coutinho can hit the ground running and be an instant success back in the Premier League.

Trippier delighted with Toon switch

Kieran Trippier has expressed his joy at returning to the Premier League with Newcastle.

The right-back has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal after costing the Toon £12million, in their first move since being taken over by a wealthy Saudi-led consortium.

He said: “I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.

“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players.

I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.”

Cristiano Ronaldo & Harry Maguire chasm

Harry Maguire has reportedly been more subdued since Cristiano Ronaldo returned which has led to a ‘leadership struggle’ at Man Utd.

It’s reported that he has been more reserved since Ronnie returned in the summer and the leadership lines have reportedly become blurred with the iconic Portuguese on the scene.

And there is discontent with the influence Ronaldo holds over international team-mates, particularly those who can speak Portuguese.

Not only Maguire, as reported by Daily mail, Cavani and Greenwood ‘have found the undroppable presence of Cristiano Ronaldo a challenge to their expected roles’

Cristiano Ronaldo captained Manchester United in the side shock defeat against Wolves in the absence of Harry Maguire, a decision which is justified by Ralf Rangnick for giving him the armband ahead of De Gea and others.

Neville said on Monday: “Something isn’t right in there.

“There is definitely whingeing going on. They are all at each other.

“The spirit of a dressing room is really important and I don’t think they’re all with each other at the moment.

Leicester suffer Jamie Vardy and Jonny Evans injury blow

Leicester City have been dealt a double injury blow, with manager Brendan Rodgers revealing that Jamie Vardy will be out for up to eight weeks, while Jonny Evans will be absent until April after undergoing surgery.

Vardy, 34, is sidelined with a hamstring injury after playing through the pain barrier during the club’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool on December 28.

“Jamie will be out for a number of weeks. It’s been unfortunate for him. We’re probably looking up to eight weeks,” Rodgers said on Friday.

“It could be up to eight weeks. It’s the higher end of his hamstring, so you’re looking into March. He doesn’t need an operation, that was the only good news.”

Arsenal’s transfer plan

According to The Athletic, Arsenal could look to bolster their midfield options this month with Mikel Arteta having a lack of options as things stand.

With Thomas Partey representing Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations and Ainsley Maitland-Niles edging closer to Roma, it leaves the Gunners boss with just Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka in the middle of the pitch.

Arsenal’s Forest gesture

Arsenal will wear a one-off all white kit in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest after teaming up with Adidas in an attempt to tackle knife crime and youth violence.

“Every young person deserves the opportunity to express themselves. The opportunity to exist within a safe environment,” said former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

“The opportunity to live free from fear of violence. We can never accept loss of life through youth violence as ‘normal’ in our city and it’s so important that we all work together to create a better environment for young people.

“By giving young people more places to play sport, more support, and access to individuals who can inspire them, together we can help make a difference to young people in London.”

Arsenal WANT Dusan Vlahovic

Arsenal are in the ‘strongest position’ out of any club to land the signing of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic this month.

The Athletic reported that Arsenal are pushing for the Serbian’s signature in this window and are ‘best placed’ of the striker’s current suitors when it comes to the fee they will pay and the salary they will offer the 21-year-old.

Arsenal are pushing to sign Dusan Vlahovic & if the player is to move in January then, as things stand, Arsenal are in the strongest position to sign him because they are thought to be the best placed of Vlahovic’s current suitors when it comes to fee & salary.

Vieira on Nketiah rumours

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has refused to be drawn on rumours linking his side with Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

“The two names (Nketiah and Aaron Ramsey) you mentioned are good players, there’s no doubt about it,” said the Eagles boss.

“But at the moment we are focusing on the game tomorrow and about how we can go through to the next round.”
